A while ago, I made a Mary Sue/Gary Stu test for people to put their OCs through. Well, it got really popular. And a while ago, I got to thinking about what makes a Mary Sue a Mary Sue.
The test measures how many 'features' your OC has: relations, powers, their appearance, where they come from, enemies, etc. At the end of the test there is a disclaimer that a character may have many such features and still not be a mary Cue.
You see, when a single character has many features, they bend the story around themselves, until the story for the sake of the OC, and not the other way around. And that is a Mary Sue.
Now, the test is based on an estimation of how many features a character can have before they start bending the story, but it is possible for a single character to have so many features that they would normally qualify as a Mary Sue, but the writer may also give the other characters in the story more features than characters normally have, so the would-be Mary Sue is unable to bend the story, because the other characters resist the bending.

Creating a balanced character
What is a well balanced character?
A well balanced charater is one you would believe is really existing. Creating a character like this may seem not easy at all and sometimes even impossible but it is all about relating information about your character, a bit knowledge of human nature and psychology with each other.
If you manage to master this combination, you will be able to create characters that can come to life on their own.
Sounds good but pretty complex, right? Let me show you.
First of all: A character should always be the result of many factors being combined as I mentioned above.

Types of Mary-Sue's
Angsty Sue: This type of Sue is created for people to feel bad for because of some dark past. Every other character in the story (unless they're mean or spiteful) will always make the Sue’s angst the biggest issue in the story and the fact that she constantly dwells in her own self pity will be considered a “natural reaction”. If two characters both have traumatic experiences, the Sue will receive more attention no matter what. The main goal of these is often to have the OC cuddle with a canon character.
Example one: Fred has just had his leg chopped off and will die if he does not receive medical attention immediately, but
