I could launch into a long monologue about our history and culture and all the compromises and concessions we have made, but instead, I will outline one simple, logical, selfish reason why all Israelis definitely want peaceful relations with all our neighbors.
Israel today is not a rich country. Compared to some of our neighbors, we are, but that's not setting the bar very high.
The operative word of the previous sentence is 'today'; today Israel is not a rich country; historically, the ancient Kingdom of Israel was a very rich country. Why? Like realtors say, it's all about location: something like 75% of all migratory bird species pass through Israel; something like a similar percentage of ancient caravan routes also passed through Israel: Israel lies at the choke point between three continents.
If that is so, then why is Israel today not rich? Simply put, because our neighbors are hostile to us: our borders are closed and guarded by the army 24/7: all the ancient trade routes are closed, and as a result, we are not making any money from them.
Should peace ever grow(God send it be so) between us and our neighbors the borders will open, and our location is just as central as ever: geographically speaking, it makes no sense for Asia to have trade by sea with Africa; looking at a Sattelite map, Israel is on the direct route to Europe for much of Africa.
Should we ever have peace(and in my country we all sincerely hope for it) then we here in Israel will become very rich.
